LANGKAWI

Our Easter holidays were split between Langkawi and here. Langkawi is just an hours flight on the plane from here, so we booked into the Bayjaya Hotel and spend four nights there. Langkawi is a relatively small island, with some lovely beaches and restaurants. Its also well know for its marine life and is popular with Divers. The Resort is located right on the beach, with guests staying in individual chalets set on the steep, jungle covered hillside overlooking the sea! The only way around the resort was by the little bus shuttles that run around the place. We had the company of Monkeys, Giant Black Squirrels and Flying Lima's (which I thought you could only find in South America? - but who am I to say) outside our chalets!

We spent a few days on the beach and by the pool, a day traveling around the island seeing the attractions, such as the Cable Car, Crocodile Farm, and Harbour. Then a day trip to an island an hour away by boat to do some snorkeling. It was pretty rough and windy on the way out, and I have to say I was very sick, but once I was on dry land I had a few hours to recover! The sea remained choppy, but as the tide came in, the wind dropped and the water cleared, to allow us to do some snorkeling and see some beautiful fish. Hamish went in with bread and had fish swarming around him! Later the local guys fed the small reef and blacked tipped sharks that live in the bay.

The trip back was much more pleasant with the sea being totally calm.

The second week was spent here in KL. Every morning I took the girls riding and Hamish tagged along. Then in the afternoon they either had friends round, or we went shopping. KLCC (Twin Towers) was a good place to go. The girls went shopping and I took Hamish to see the Science and Technology Centre. We had the experience of a simulator Helicopter flight to an oil/gas platform, then were taken around a mock platform. Hamish covered his face all the way threw the helicopter flight - he was a bit frightened - especially when the Captain said that we were going to ditch!
